The early signing day has passed, so it’s time to start paying attention to the transfer portal. Auburn did an excellent job finishing off signing day and pulling in a quality class, so now it’s time to finish strong in the portal.
There are many talented athletes in the transfer portal who would improve Auburn’s 2024 roster.
Let’s take a look at three names Auburn fans should keep an eye on via the transfer portal.
AJ Harris, Georgia, CB
AJ Harris was a freshman at Georgia this season who had eight tackles in his short career in Athens. He was a five-star player in the 2023 class from Phenix City, Alabama, and decided to cross state lines to play for the Dawgs. If Auburn were able to land Harris, it would be a massive addition at a position of need as many of the Tiger’s secondary players are moving to the NFL. Adding a former five-star player with a bunch of eligibility left would be huge for this Auburn team.
Derrick Harmon, DL, Michigan State
Derrick Harmon is a defensive lineman who played his first few seasons for the Michigan State Spartans, where he was teammates with Auburn quarterback Payton Thorne. Harmon had 40 tackles last season, plus 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble. Auburn wants a few defensive linemen in the portal, and Harmon would be a perfect fit. He has a ton of offers from big schools in the portal so if the Tigers could land him, it would be a massive get for Hugh Freeze and his staff.
Rico Walker, TE, Maryland
Rico Walker is a freshman tight end from Hickory, North Carolina, who started his college football career at Maryland who Auburn plays in the Music City Bowl. Walker is six-foot-four and weighs 248 pounds, giving him a perfect frame for his position. He was a high four-star out of high school and decided to hit the portal after only catching four passes for 27 yards his freshman season. Auburn would love another really good tight end to have in the rotation behind Rivaldo Fairweather, making this a good fit.
