Despite Dante Reno being committed to South Carolina since July of 2022, that didn’t stop other teams from making a push for the class of 2024 quarterback.
“I committed so early so everyone kept recruiting me,” Reno told On3 during media check-in at the 2024 Under Armour All-America Game. “I listened to everyone, but I was committed, and as long as I was committed I wasn’t visiting anywhere.”
Two of those schools included Nebraska and Miami. Cornhuskers offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield originally recruited Reno while he was still coaching at South Carolina. Reno has told GamecockCentral in the past that Nebraska was persistent for the first several months after Satterfield arrived.
But another school that made a push for Reno leading right up to National Signing Day was Miami. Miami OC Shannon Dawson was previously at Houston. There he started to recruit Reno when he was with the Cougars.
“When (Dawson) got there, he recruited me and tried to flip me even up until to National Signing Day. It was awesome to have a good relationship with the guys. I have friends playing (at Miami) and going there. They have a good staff and a good program. I wish them all the best.”
Considered the consensus 28th quarterback in the class of 2024, the 6-foot-2, 200-pound All-American signed his National Letter of Intent to play for the Gamecocks earlier this month. Joining an elite group that features a pair of five-star commitments.
“It starts with coach (Shane) Beamer. He’s been at the forefront of this recruitment. Our class and the class before us. It starts with the offensive line and defensive line. Dylan Stewart is a huge pick-up for us, one of the best defensive linemen in the country if not the best.”
Reno is set to enroll into South Carolina in the coming days. His arrival is much anticipated with how thin USC’s quarterback room is. While there’s still a lot of unknowns about the Gamecocks quarterback room there is one thing we do know. Reno will be getting plenty of reps this spring.
“There’s two QBs (right now), me and LaNorris (Sellers). The depth chart is something you look at but it’s not at the forefront. I had the choice enter the ’23 class or stay in ’24. I’m excited to compete with those guys and get coached by coach (Dowell)
