LaPorta was injured right before halftime last Sunday in their regular season final 30-20 win over the Minnesota Vikings.

He sustained a lower leg injury after being tackled and was tended to by the training staff.

The 22-year-old rookie was able to slowly limp off the field and made his way to the blue medical tent, then was eventually carted to the locker room.

LaPorta was officially ruled out of the game early in the second half.

The injury sent social media into a frenzy as NFL fans feared for the worse.

After the game, Campbell shared a brief update in his post-game press conference.

“It’s not as bad as it looked.

“But it’s not good news,” Campbell said about Laporta.”

However, on Monday, Campbell provided a more optimistic outlook on the star rookie’s injury.

“Look, LaPorta has an outside shot now.

“In 48 hours, we’re going to know a lot with him.

“But he’s got an outside shot,” Campbell said Monday.

If Laporta can’t go, it will be a huge loss for the NFL playoffs, as he set a rookie record for tight ends with 86 catches.

The Lions will host their first playoff game since 1993 and their first ever at Ford Field.

Detroit will have to knock off a familiar face in Matthew Stafford, who played for the franchise for 12 seasons before being traded to the Rams.

THE DETROIT Lions’ offense could look very different on Sunday as one of their key stars got injured in their Week 18 game.

Lions’ head coach Dan Campbell provided an injury update for sensational rookie tight end Sam LaPorta ahead of their Wild Card Weekend showdown with the Los Angeles Rams.
