Elland Road beat two PL rivals in race to sign superman to replace current player

According to Dean Jones, Leeds United are actively pursuing Hellas Verona left-back Josh Doig, who has been tracked by Arsenal over the previous year.

The former Eurosport journalist revealed to GiveMeSport (13 January) that Doig is a target for the Whites, as well as Rangers, and that Arsenal has been kept up to date on his progress over the previous year.

Doig, on the other hand, appears to be set to join French Ligue 1 club Marseille, with an agreement and personal terms in place (Fabrizio Romano, 13 January), and Jones acknowledges that West Ham United defender Ben Johnson may now be the one for Daniel Farke to pursue.

“He [Doig] is a target that both [Leeds and Rangers] were very well informed about, and Arsenal have kept in touch with his progress over the last year or so,” Jones said.

“He is a really good player, and both Leeds and Rangers could use a boost in his position, so this is turning into an active pursuit of an attainable player.”

“However, from a Leeds perspective, it appears that they are pursuing a few players with specific experience and traits.” West Ham’s Ben Johnson is achievable and could be the one.”

Bring in Johnson.

Leeds United currently have an unwelcome dilemma at right back after allowing Djed Spence to return to his parent club Tottenham and Luke Ayling to join Middlesbrough on loan.

It’s a dilemma that should force the Whites into the transfer market immediately after deploying a wonderful short-term answer in Archie Gray, who is undoubtedly demonstrating his brilliant adaptability and tactical awareness right now.

However, putting a midfielder there isn’t sustainable, and Sam Byram, who has already suffered three injuries since joining from Norwich in the summer, can’t be relied on for the rest of the season.

Doig was a fantastic signing for Leeds United, but he’s chosen Marseille as his next destination, leaving the Whites with Johnson as their backup option.

In all honesty, the Englishman is a decent right back option who would be willing to come given his restricted minutes in East London.

However, it is unclear whether West Ham would be willing to approve his departure considering that veteran Vladimir Coufal would be their sole option at right-back.
