Jesse Arthars, a Brisbane Broncos winger, has suffered a setback in his 2024 campaign after injuring himself at training on Wednesday.
After landing awkwardly on his left ankle during a training session, the club confirmed that Arthars had an MRI to establish the seriousness of the injury.
“Jesse sprained his ankle at training yesterday,” Broncos Head of Performance Dave Ballard announced.
“We plan to have him back in action for the trial against the Cowboys in Mackay.
“He’s in the best of hands with our rehabilitation staff.”
Arthars is coming off a breakout season in 2023, when he replaced veteran Corey Oates on the wing and competed in the Grand Final against the Penrith Panthers.
The Broncos will be hoping the 25-year-old can maintain his fine form this year, especially as Herbie Farnworth has left for the Dolphins and Selwyn Coboo will move into the centres.
Cobbo’s move from the wing to the centres was confirmed by coach Kevin Walters, who hopes to fit either youngster Deine Mariner or veteran Corey Oates into the surprising lineup.
“That’s the plan — to move him into that role,” Walters told the journalists, according to News Corp.
“He’s definitely more comfortable in the center than on the wing.
“So far, he’s done pretty well there. I suppose we’ll find out more once we start playing and he has to start making tackles and doing all the things that great centers do.”
