With four simple words, Michigan running back Donovan Edwards made hundreds of thousands of Wolverine fans extremely happy.
“Michigan fans…I’m back.”
Blake Corum has been Michigan’s undisputed RB1 and an absolute legend during his time at Michigan, but Edwards has some of the biggest runs in Michigan history over the last two seasons. His 75 and 85-yarders against Ohio State in Columbus last year, coupled with his 41 and 46-yard TD scampers in the national championship game against Washington, will literally go down as some of the most iconic plays ever made by a player in a winged helmet.
As a junior, Edwards didn’t produce how many thought he would as he ground out just 393 yards on 113 carries with three scores. He obviously left his mark on the title game, but fans thought it would look like that all year long. Through three years, Edwards has amassed 1,662 yards on 294 carries with 15 touchdowns. The West Bloomfield product has also shown how dynamic he can be as a receiver out of the backfield. He has 68 grabs for 714 yards and three more touchdowns as a pass catcher. Not for nothing, Edwards is also 3-for-3 as a passer, for 108 yards and a touchdown. The TD pass was yet another iconic play as Edwards found Roman Wilson for a 75-yard score in the Big Ten Championship game against Iowa in 2021.
