Florida had a tough year on the field in 2023, finishing with a 5-7 record, its third consecutive losing season.
However, the Gators may soon face far more serious challenges.
The NCAA is investigating Coach Billy Napier’s program, according to documents obtained Friday by Matt Baker of The Tampa Bay Times.
“The investigation has been underway since at least June 9 when the NCAA sent [Florida] president Ben Sasse a notice of inquiry,” Baker said in a statement.
According to Baker, the documents did not specify the nature of the claims.
“We have been and will continue to cooperate with the NCAA,” Florida athletics spokesperson Steve McClain told the Times. “We maintain high standards of performance and ethics both on and off the field. We are unable to provide additional comments due to NCAA confidentiality restrictions.
Florida’s football program was last sanctioned for NCAA violations in 2020, when the NCAA placed the team on probation for a year for inappropriate contact with recruits under coach Dan Mullen.
