Pitching has been a big focus of the Philadelphia Phillies’ offseason this year.

Their primary aim was to re-sign Aaron Nola and put him with Zack Wheeler at the top of their rotation for the 2024 season. With Wheeler scheduled to hit free agency at the end of the year, extension talks have begun so that their two aces can be under contract for the foreseeable future.

Pitching has been a major focus of the Philadelphia Phillies’ offseason this year.

Their primary goal was to re-sign Aaron Nola and position him alongside Zack Wheeler at the top of their rotation for the 2024 season. With Wheeler set to enter free agency at the end of the year, extension discussions have begun to keep their two aces under contract for the foreseeable future.

Throughout the offseason, the Phillies were linked to various pitchers, including Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who was offered a competitive contract before signing a megadeal with the Dodgers.

Injuries hampered the promising lefty, but he still had a career ERA of 3.41 in 108 minor league starts.

Allard made his Major League debut with Atlanta in 2018, before being dealt to the Rangers in June 2019.

He appeared in 62 games for Texas, starting 34, but had an ERA of 5.85 over 224 2/3 innings pitched.

Allard returned to the Braves in November 2022 and appeared in only four games in 2023, starting three of them, due to two separate spells on the 60-day injured list for an oblique strain and shoulder nerve inflammation.

The Phillies are taking a chance on the former first-round talent, aiming to restart his career within the club.

According to Matt Gelb of The Athletic, the deal is for one year and $1 million, plus $125,000 in incentives.

This will give Philadelphia rotation depth they were looking for this offseason.

Allard also has a minor-league option remaining which helps them navigate their roster when it comes time to decide who will be on the team for Opening Day.
