Shaun Johnson, a New Zealand Warriors halfback, is progressing as planned following an ankle injury sustained in training last week.

The 33-year-old playmaker will be introduced to the early stages of a return-to-running programme next week as he heals from a minor ankle strain.

Johnson is certain to be available for the club’s first-round match against Cronulla Sutherland on Friday, March 8, at Go Media Stadium.

Winger Ed Kosi is returning to team training after undergoing a scaphoid repair earlier in the summer.

He has been running throughout, but he is still on restricted contact as he strives to be available in the early rounds of the season.

Balin Cupples, head of performance, reported that Demitric Sifakula, a 2023 rookie back rower, is making good progress in his recovery from ACL surgery.

Sifakula is halfway into his first running block and gaining strength ahead of a midseason return.
