The Brisbane Broncos are reportedly in the final stages of contract negotiations with five-eighth and Grand Final star Ezra Mam.

According to the Courier Mail, Mam has committed his long-term future to the Brisbane Broncos, having agreed to a new contract extension with the club, which will be formalised by his 21st birthday next week.

It is understood that the Broncos will make an announcement about his future before departing for Las Vegas next month for their first game against the Sydney Roosters.

It has been widely reported that Mam’s new contract will be worth around $3 million for the next four years.

The Dally M five-eighth of the year is coming off his best NRL season and has established himself as a marquee player and the competition’s top star. The extension will prevent him from joining Queensland rivals The Dolphins and take him off the open market.

He will also become the fifth playmaker to sign a new contract this off-season, joining Jarome Luai (Wests Tigers), Mitchell Woods (Canterbury Bulldogs), Jesse Marshke (St George Illawarra Dragons), and Kaeo Weekes (Canberra Raiders), further diluting halves stocks for the rest of the NRL.

“I believe it is getting very close, but it is up to the powers that be to come together. Walters previously stated, “I’m sure it’ll happen; it’s just a matter of when.”

“I am very confident he will stay. He enjoys the location, and we enjoy having him here. We’re also working hard to get Ezra the best deal possible, which I’m confident we can achieve.

The Brisbane Broncos will now focus on retaining fullback Reece Walsh, who will be out of contract at the end of the 2024 season and free to negotiate with rival clubs starting November 1, making him one of the hottest free agents, according to The Courier Mail.

Halfback Adam Reynolds is close to signing a one-year contract extension that will allow him to play in the 2025 season.
