The Sharks are pleased as  key players from another team join them.

 

Mike Grier and David Quinn have both spoken about San Jose Sharks centre Mikael Granlund as if he will be back next season, which has dampened speculation of a trade.

After the State of the Sharks event, GM Mike Grier spoke with media about a variety of issues, including his expectations for next season.

“I think if we go into next year [and], we add some pieces, and we have Logan Couture, Tomas Hertl, Mikael Granlund, and Nico Sturm down the middle, we will feel pretty good about ourselves taking a step forward from where we are this year,” he added.

Granlund’s name has come up in trade rumours this season, particularly given his excellent offensive performance. Granlund has 29 points in 38 games for the Sharks and is a leader despite not wearing a letter on his jersey.

“I know Granlund hasn’t been here as long as those two guys, but you’re talking about three really good players, great people, great examples for young players,” Sharks head coach David Quinn remarked when asked about Hertl and Couture’s

With the way Quinn and Grier talk about Granlund, it appears that he will remain with the San Jose Sharks following the trade deadline and next season.

“We haven’t discussed that. I surely spoke with him a lot. “I include him in everything we do when we talk to a leadership group,” Quinn said of Granlund perhaps being appointed an alternate captain. “He may not wear an A on his jersey, but we certainly treat him with that kind of respect. [We] appreciate his feedback to the players.”
