The Bulldogs have confirmed the release of former captain Raymond Faitala-Mariner to the Dragons.
Faitala-Mariner had two years remaining on his contract worth a reputed $800,000, but the Bulldogs informed him in November that he was not compelled to attend pre-season training and could talk with other teams.
Following crisis meetings with coach Cameron Ciraldo and Canterbury general manager Phil Gould, the 30-year-old returned to training at Belmore.

Following crisis meetings with coach Cameron Ciraldo and Canterbury general manager Phil Gould, the 30-year-old returned to training at Belmore.
“Faitala-Mariner has made valuable contributions to the Bulldogs both on and off the field. He has made 102 appearances for the Club, and the Bulldogs would want to thank him for his hard work and dedication throughout his stay at Belmore.
“The club wishes him, and his family, all the best for the future.”
The Dragons then announced that Faitala-Mariner had signed a two-year contract to the end of 2025.
He joins the Red V immediately, bringing 114 games of first-grade experience from 10 seasons with the Warriors and Bulldogs, as well as four Test matches for Samoa and New Zealand.
“Raymond is a veteran first-grader who will add some experience and grit to our forward pack,” Dragons coach Shane Flanagan said.
“His versatility to play on the wing and in the middle, as well as the direction he can provide to our young forwards, will benefit our entire squad.
“We’re excited to welcome him to training this week as we continue our preparation for the 2024 season.”
