Colts biggest surprise as

Veteran running back Zack Moss was not acquired by the Colts in a trade in 2022 to play a major role. However, he shown dependability to complete his first year in Indianapolis.

The expectations for the 2023 season were lower, particularly after Jonathan Taylor signed a three-year, $42 million contract, according to Spotrac.

While Taylor recovered from an ankle injury, Moss shocked the NFL world by emerging as a leader for Steichen’s offense in Week 2 against the Houston Texans.

Moss was relentless in his first four games, racking up 445 yards on 89 carries (5 yards per carry) and four all-purpose touchdowns.

Moss fell off dramatically after week six against the Jacksonville Jaguars, when Taylor took over as the top runner. Nonetheless, he concluded the year with 794 rushing yards (leading the team) on 183 carries (4.3 yards per carry), 27 receptions for 192 receiving yards, and seven all-purpose touchdowns.

Moss may have played his way into a starter contract elsewhere, something no one expected. It will be interesting to observe how Indianapolis handles the current free agency.

Left lineman Bernhard Raimann was selected 77th overall in the third round of the 2022 NFL draft.

The Central Michigan product was viewed as a project with limited exposure to the tackle position. While he struggled at initially, he improved over his rookie season.

However, his accomplishments in 2023 demonstrated that he is one of the league’s most trustworthy blocks.

Raimann ended as Pro Football Focus’ 16th-best (tied) offensive tackle with an 82.3 grade. He was the NFL’s ninth-best offensive tackler.

Raimann was also Indy’s best pass blocker (80.6) and did well in the run game.

Raimann was not considered a stalwart on the Colts’ offensive line entering the 2023 season. Following this performance, he is likely one of the league’s most efficient left tackles entering 2024.
