Lagend Urged Steelers to sign 49ers Super League talent QB on a three-year contract after major release

Pittsburgh — The Pittsburgh Steelers are evaluating their quarterback situation this offseason, and it is expected that they will add another veteran to compete with Kenny Pickett.

While the team hopes that veteran is Mason Rudolph, they are not guaranteed to keep their end-of-year starter. So they could be looking for a backup plan, and former linebacker Arthur Moats has one in mind.

Moats stated on his podcast, The Arthur Moats Experience, that he is pushing for the team to sign San Francisco 49ers quarterback Sam Darnold. The former New York Jets first-round pick is on his third NFL team, but he has demonstrated starting potential in the right system.

“You saw Sam Darnold come in and play good this year,” Moats went on to say. “You know he’s a high pedigree guy who’s been around and has starter experience, but more importantly, he’s very talented, so it doesn’t matter how productive he is. You are discussing talent in a practice setting. Do you know how difficult it is to beat a professional at that level? If you can’t beat Sam Darnold, we’ll have to draft someone the following year because Sam Darnold isn’t our franchise player, but is he good enough to start? Sure.”

Darnold played one game this season, completing 28 of 46 passes for 297 yards and two touchdowns with one interception. He is 21-35 as an NFL starter, throwing for 12,064 yards, 63 touchdowns, and 56 interceptions. He has a career completion rate of 59.7%.

When it comes to finding a competitor for Pickett, the Steelers will look at all available free agents. Team President Art Rooney II recently stated that the organization’s “next step” is to find quality quarterback play, implying that finding “their” quarterback is their number one priority this offseason.
