The Tennessee Titans will have a new head coach and may also make roster changes. Who are the Titans players that the Chicago Bears and their fans should keep an eye on as they prepare for free agency this spring?
3. Could the Chicago Bears acquire DeAndre Hopkins this offseason?
This offseason, the Tennessee Titans could look to trade DeAndre Hopkins. They would save approximately $10.1 million by moving on from him, and following his season, teams will be interested.
Still, the Titans might be wise to move on. They are currently undergoing some reconstruction. They’ve hired a younger head coach and plan to replace Derrick Henry and Ryan Tannehill this offseason. This is an opportunity to turn Hopkins into a draft pick before his contract expires and they receive nothing for him next year. It would extend the rebuild and provide opportunities for the Titans to compete in the future.
For the Chicago Bears, now is the time to strike. They need to add a wide receiver, but it would be wise to use their two top ten picks on a quarterback and an edge rusher. They have the ascending D.J. Moore, so taking on the aging Hopkins does not tip the scales in their favor.
The Bears can afford it, and they could exchange Hopkins for a lower draft pick to cover the salary. Expect them to be involved in any DeAndre Hopkins discussion this offseason.
2. The Chicago Bears may find their future center on the Tennessee Titans.
The Chicago Bears will need to sign a center this offseason. Aaron Brewer is one of the names that will be associated with them. Brewer is a free agent this offseason. He is a former UDFA who spent four years with the Titans, moving around the line. Last year, he was the Tennessee Titans’ starting center.
He has played 1,299 snaps at left guard, 1,185 at center, and 209 at right guard. The Bears must like his versatility, as well as the fact that he won the starting center job. When you consider that he is 26 years old, the fit makes sense.
At the same time, he was starting for the Titans, whose offensive line is one of the worst in the league. The Titans intend to let him test free agency because they, too, may be looking to upgrade.
Still, you could easily argue that Brewer was superior and more reliable than any center the Bears had this season. The Bears could sign Brewer to a reasonable contract and then draft a center as well. Fans must keep an eye on Aaron Brewer in free agency.
1. This pass rusher would be an excellent fit for the Chicago Bears.
Last offseason, the Chicago Bears signed DeMarcus Walker from the Tennessee Titans. They seemed to like what he brought in a rotational role, and Denico Autry started ahead of him for the Titans.
Autry began his career with the Las Vegas Raiders and progressed briefly with the Indianapolis Colts, but his career really took off in Tennessee. He had 90 pressures in his last three seasons with the Raiders, 108 in three seasons with the Colts, and 171 in three seasons with the Titans. Needless to say, he is playing his best football.
Autry moves up and down the line, playing in the Bears’ preferred style. While he will be sought after, he is 33 years old, so the market will have a limited number of suitors. The Chicago Bears clearly like his style, and there are only so many teams that can fit into his scheme. The need exists, as does the money and the scheme. This could be an ideal fit for the Chicago Bears.
