NRL Bulldogs sign Super League talent on a three-year contract after major release

Mitchell Woods, one of the country’s hottest young athletic prospects, has officially committed to the Canterbury Bulldogs.

The adolescent has excelled at three different sports: rugby league, AFL, and rugby union, but he opted to sign a long-term contract with the Dogs this week, putting an end to a prospective bidding war for his talents.

Woods has been a member of the Sydney Swans programme since the age of ten, and he was a highly regarded midfielder in the junior ranks. He also played for the NSW Waratahs’ under-age system.

However, the local product has emerged as one of Canterbury’s brightest future prospects after leading the Harold Matts to premiership triumph earlier in 2023, and he will now stay with the club for an extended length of time.

Who is Mitchell Woods? Teenage star pledges to Bulldogs
Woods is a 17-year-old Bulldogs kid who has lately decided to continue with rugby league despite his exceptional talent in AFL and union.

Woods, a half or five-eighth with a good kicking game and playmaking abilities, began his career in the St George district’s 13-man code with Penshurst RSL before going to the Canterbury junior league with St Christopher’s.

Woods captained the Bulldogs in the famous Harold Matts under-age competition earlier this year, starting at halfback, crossing for a try, and was named Player of the Match in the team’s 32-6 victory over the Knights.
