confirmed; Wild are bringing him back

The Minnesota Wild could land a decent NHL prospect before the end of the regular season.

In The Athletic’s recent mailbag, when asked which Wild prospect would next make an impact, Michael Russo provided some additional insight on what the team may be thinking about Marat Khusnutdinov.

“Danila Yurov has star potential, and I believe the Wild will sign Marat Khusnutdinov after his season concludes on February 25, burn the first year of his entry-level deal, and start him immediately in the NHL. He has 16 points in 38 games for KHL Sochi (three on Sunday), can play wing and center, and already has a lot of pro experience at the age of 21, so it would make sense for the Wild to get a jump start on seeing what they have in him for next season.”

According to Russo, the centerman plays for HC Sochi, a rather mediocre KHL team, so playoffs are unlikely, and with the regular season concluding in less than a month, the player might come over before the NHL trade deadline. If they believe he is ready for the major leagues, it is tremendously exciting.

The only uncertainty is who will come out of the lineup. However, as previously stated, the trade deadline is not until a week after Khusnutdinov’s arrival, and Patrick Maroon may find himself on a different team by then.
