Marcus Foligno hasn’t played since January 25th, but he was credited with 27 extra hits during a league-wide audit during the 2024 NHL All-Star break.
Today, the NHL disclosed that they conducted a league-wide audit during the 2024 NHL All-Star break to essentially improve hit totals.
Marcus Foligno was among those who benefited from this. Foligno received 27 more hits than he had before the audit, despite not playing in a single additional game.
Brandon Duhaime, Foligno’s teammate, increased his hit total from 94 to 116 without playing any more games. Joel Eriksson Ek went from 92 to 114 hits, an increase of 22 total hits.
Foligno advanced from 129 to 156. He was tenth in the NHL with 129 hits, but currently ranks eleventh despite having 27 hits this season. Michael Russo of the Athletic wrote a story about the NHL’s big hits audit that does an excellent job of explaining why everything transpired.
Nonetheless, it’s strange to see some of the Wild’s players increase their hit totals much without playing any additional games. Foligno is one of many NHL players whose overall number of hits has increased significantly this season.
