The Jets got off to a poor start in Pittsburgh Wednesday night, but a match penalty to Brenden Dillon changed the game completely in favour of the Penguins, who added two power play goals on their way to a 3-0 victory over Winnipeg. Stay tuned to see if there will be any further discipline for number five. It was the Jets’ third shutout in their past seven games. Despite having a complete lineup, they did not achieve the desired results. They have a day of practice set for today in New Jersey as they prepare for the final game of their road trip tomorrow night in Philadelphia. Stay tuned for the practice report.

Note II: In order to be roster compliant, the Jets had to place someone on waivers when they took Mark Scheifele off IR, which they accomplished on Tuesday afternoon with Axel Jonsson-Fjällby. We’ll know at 1 PM CST whether he was claimed or if he may be assigned to the Moose. (UPDATE: He cleared).

Winnipeg Sun: Scrambly Jets face their hardest test yet. While this does go into the game, Scott provides many items to consider at the end of the post.

Winnipeg Sun: Dillon is tossed, and the Jets lose again, bringing their losing run to a season-high four games. For the third consecutive game, the Jets were down to five defensemen due to a match penalty to bruising Dman. Brenden Dillon had him go to the showers considerably sooner than his teammates. The visitors’ hopes were dashed as the home team scored two goals. Scott recaps the game.

Winnipeg Free Press: Pens’ match penalty is the turning point as they blank the struggling Jets. There is no doubt that this made the difference in the hockey game, but the fact that they were unable to generate anything approximating a scoring opportunity on either of their power plays was equally disappointing.

Winnipeg Free Press: Harkins finds his place with the Pens. It was the first time the Jets met Jansen Harkins, a former prospect who Pittsburgh plucked off waivers earlier this season. He played 154 games in a Winnipeg uniform and 200 in a Manitoba jersey, and based on the images shared by the social media team, he still has numerous relationships with the organization’s players.

Global News: The Winnipeg Jets’ offensive struggles continue with a 3-0 loss in Pittsburgh. Christian and Russ work together to provide this game breakdown.

Pittsburgh Tribune: Penguins’ retooled power play leads to victory over Jets following Noel Acciari’s injury. It’s always beneficial to gain some perspective into the game from a writer who covers the Jets’ opponents.

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Penguins’ power play secures win over Winnipeg Jets. The same sentiment as above.
