Assistant LeVar Woods is in charge of recruiting Parliament for Iowa. George Barnett, the offensive line coach, is also involved.
“Coach Barnett talked about Iowa’s selective recruitment procedure. That’s when it became evident to me—and that was really encouraging—that Iowa is quite interested in what they have seen thus far from me,” Parliament stated.”Coach Woods first saw me at one of my games last fall. He said I was mauling guys out there. Coach Woods also made comparisons of myself to former Hawkeye players, which was very humbling to hear.”During junior day, Parliament watched highlight videos of the Iowa offensive line with Barnett.
“It seemed like I was seeing highlights from my sophomore season while I watched. These highlights demonstrated aggressive guard pulling, dominance at the run game’s point of attack, being a powerful block finisher, and pure hustle plays,” the player stated.
Looking at those sophomore highlights, you can see how good the 6-foot-5, 285-pound sophomore is on both sides of the ball. Keeping him in check is difficult when he lines up at defensive tackle. As Woods put it, Parliament uses strength, accurate hand and pad placement, quick feet, and force to maul opponents. Iowa might be a suitable place for those qualities.
“I appreciate that Coach Barnett is straightforward and honest. This appeals to me since I feel like I would always know where I stand with him. It’s vital to me to be a part of a team and program that has a track record of developing players,” he remarked.
Apart from the two nearby FCS offers and the interest from the Hawkeyes, Parliament mentioned that he is receiving offers from Nebraska, Illinois, Kansas State, and Iowa State. “This spring, I’ll return to Iowa City for camp and then for a practice. I’m getting ready for a demanding summer camp schedule,” he remarked.
Parliament is still attempting to determine a field of study, even though academics will be given significant weight in his final decision.
“At this moment, I’m not sure at all. I’m going to do general studies until then,” he replied.
