Only two victories in 15 games have been managed by the former England and Manchester United striker since his contentious appointment to St Andrew’s in October.
On New Year’s Day, as the team lost 3-0 at Leeds, fans demanded that Rooney be benched. After being sixth when Rooney took over, the club ended up in 20th place in the standings.Rooney, though, has stated that it would take some time for him to get over the decision and that he does not think he was given enough time.
“Birmingham City has today parted ways with manager Wayne Rooney and first-team coach Carl Robinson,” the club said in a statement.
“Despite their greatest efforts, the outcomes have fallen short of the initial, clearly stated goals. Consequently, the board believes that the football team would benefit from a change in management.
Although there are a few steps in the process—council support, clearance from the Safety Advisory Group, and structural surveys—we think it will improve and make the environment safer for spectators.
