Kirill Kaprizov, the standout player for the Minnesota Wild, is expected to miss Sunday’s game because of an unexplained injury he sustained during Saturday’s 4-2 loss to the Winnipeg Jets, according to Michael Russo of The Athletic.
When Winnipeg forward Brenden Dillon crossed the puck twice to the Wild forward during the third period of the game on Saturday afternoon at Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Kaprizov was injured. In St. Paul, Minnesota, at 1 p.m. on Sunday, the two teams will play again.
The injury was avenged later in the third period by Jacob Middleton fighting Dillon, but Kaprizov missed the last ten minutes of play. According to Russo, team doctors will assess him on Sunday.
In addition to Kaprizov’s injury, Filip Gustavsson also sustained damage in Winnipeg. Gustavsson left the Jets game on Saturday after playing in the first two frames because of an undisclosed illness.
In order to complete their roster, the Wild have brought up goaltender Zane McIntyre and winger Nic Petan. Marc-Andre Fleury will start his 1,000th career NHL game on Sunday.
The most recent set of injuries the Wild have experienced this season are those to Gustavsson and Kaprizov. Defenseman Jared Spurgeon returned to action for the Wild on Saturday, while linemate Jonas Brodin is still out with a broken arm.
