GM Daniel Briere has stated that a successful run does not warrant giving up valuable assets. The Philadelphia Flyers, despite holding a postseason slot, are rebuilding their team. These are the top three players they should hang onto because they are valuable assets spread across the roster in a variety of positions.
The Flyers are in desperate need of defense, particularly given the possibility of a trade involving second-line defensemen Sean Walker and Nick Seeler, who were both placed on TSN’s Trade Bait List on January 31.
With 83 shots stopped this season, including an incredible 13 in his last 10 games, Sanheim is a tremendous defensive asset. In addition, he has strong offensive statistics for a blueliner, tallying four goals and 23 assists.
In October 2023, TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger revealed that the Flyers desired to retain him, despite his being considered for a trade during the 2023 off-season.
Sanheim is only in the second year of an eight-year, $50 million contract that will cost the Flyers $6.25 million a year. In addition, the contract has a 12-team no-trade list for the final four years and a complete no-trade clause for the first four.
