CHICO, Calif. – The San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs will face off in the Super Bowl on Sunday.

Action News Now spoke to a local NFL legend to get his thoughts before the big game. Former 49ers player and 2-time Super Bowl champion Jeff Stover of Chico.

Stover said getting to a Super Bowl is something special. As a kid he dreamed of playing in the NFL, but never imagined playing in the Super bowl.

Stover played with the 49ers in the 80’s as a defensive end for eight seasons. He won two Super Bowls, one in 1985 and one in 1989. He said this year’s team reminds him of the Super Bowl teams he was apart of. A player who knows what it takes to win, has some advice for the current players.

Stover says Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce can get hot and take over a game at anytime.

In his NFL career, he averaged 12 sacks in back-to-back years, just one of two players with the 49ers to do it.

Stover was born in Corning where he played high school football. He did not play football in college before signing with the 49ers.

He came back to Chico after retiring, and started the Chico Sports Club. You can see years of his memorabilia at his gym. He said he is no longer the owner, he passed the gym on to his family.
