The mutual termination of Lee Evans’ contract has been agreed to by the Club and the player. Lee joined Town in the summer of 2021 following his departure from Wigan Athletic. During his two and a half seasons at Portman Road, the 29-year-old made 61 appearances in all competitions and scored six goals, including a memorable hat-trick in the 6-0 victory over Doncaster Rovers in September of 2021. Lee captained Town on multiple occasions and scored the Club’s first goal of the 2022–23 season against Bolton on the first day of a campaign that would end in promotion to the Championship.Prior to making a full recovery from a knee injury he sustained during the Blues’ 1-1 draw with Huddersfield in September, Lee played five times in the current campaign and scored significant goals against Bristol Rovers and Morecambe during Town’s promotion season.

Lee leaves with our best wishes for the future and the Club’s gratitude for his service.

Commenting on Lee’s departure, Manager Kieran McKenna said: “Lee has made some big contributions during my time at the Club and is someone so highly respected by the staff and his teammates.

Ipswich Town VOTE | AUGUST PLAYER OF THE MONTH

“He’s a terrific player and a terrific professional and, after being very unfortunate and suffering from a lot of injuries, we hope those issues are resolved following surgery and he can get back playing games again.

“Lee has come to an agreement where he will do what is hopefully his last month of rehab work here until he’s back in full training and then have the opportunity to go and sign somewhere as a free agent.

“Hopefully he will get quite a few games before the end of the season, with whoever takes him getting a very good football player, hopefully now free of injury, and a fantastic character who is so well-respected here.”
