Joel Selwood, a former captain of the Geelong Cats, has announced his resignation as the Melbourne Storm’s leadership coach for the upcoming campaign.
Selwood’s exit from the team follows the Storm’s two-day farewell to Jordan Grant, Tom Eisenhuth, and George Jennings.
After retiring from Aussie Rules at the end of the 2022 season, the former AFL premiership-winning captain joined the Storm. He played a significant role in mentoring the Storm’s young leaders as they rose through the ranks and in assisting to develop players at the club.
Selwood declared, “I have really enjoyed the opportunity, learnings, and experiences of the Melbourne Storm organization over the past 12 months.”
“I’m a better person for having the privilege of working amongst a great team on and off the ground.”
Joel has been a true professional who has embraced the values of our club since December, according to Ponissi.
We’ve lost a lot of experience in our playing group over the last several years, so it was critical that we bring in someone like Joel to help develop our next generation of players in order to secure our future.
“He has been an amazing role model for our young leaders, and he will surely impart wisdom to them that they will carry into and beyond their playing careers.
“He is an outstanding person and we have been so fortunate to have him at Storm over the past year. We wish him, his partner Britt and his son Joey all the best for the future.”
