A few weeks remain until college football’s December early signing day, and Oklahoma’s 2024 football class appears to be improving.
Early signing is available for the 2024 class from December 20 to December 22. In order to formally transcribe their spoken commitments, commits have that window of time to turn in their signed letters of substance.
The Sooners, who have 27 commitments in their 2024 class, are currently ranked seventh by ESPN and 247Sports and sixth by Rivals. This is the largest recruiting class that Brent Venables has been a part of since taking the head coaching position.Like most major programs at this time of year, the Oklahoma 2024 class is almost full, and most, if not all, of the pledges are expected to sign their letters of intent on early signing day.
Oklahoma has high expectations for another exceptional talent, Tampa, Florida’s Eddy Pierre-Louis, a four-star offensive lineman who is still available to offers. Pierre-Louis, who 247Sports ranks as the No. 11 interior offensive lineman in the class, is expected to choose Oklahoma, which is good news for the Sooners. Pierre-Louis has scheduled his announcement of his commitment decision for December 15.
Furthermore, it’s not impossible that OU will switch one or more prospects who have already made commitments to other universities. While it’s uncommon, this does occasionally occur (safety Peyton Bowen, for example, committed to Oregon on signing day last year after decommitting from Notre Dame, only to change his mind and play for Oklahoma the next day).
In the 2024 class, Dominick McKinley, a five-star defensive line prospect currently committed to Texas A&M, may offer OU the best chance of this happening. Given the recent coaching change at A&M, McKinley may be second-guessing his decision. When he selected Texas A&M, Oklahoma was apparently a very close second choice.Oklahoma’s 2024 class currently possesses a strong balance between defense and offense. The Sooners have fourteen players committed to the offensive line and thirteen to the defense. Defensive linemen (including edge rushers) have five commitments, while wide receivers and offensive linemen have four apiece.
Geographically, the class is divided as follows: the traditional 13 pupils are from Texas (7) and Oklahoma (6), while the remaining students are from 10 other states and London, England.
