The Kansas City Chiefs are gaining momentum, but are currently without a key player.
Joe Thuney, an All-Pro guard, will miss Super Bowl LVIII to recover from a pectoral injury.
Andy Reid did not formally state Thuney would miss the big game, but it is now official after he missed practice all week.
Thuney suffered an injury during the AFC divisional round against the Buffalo Bills.
Nick Allegretti will start in Thuney’s place. “Next-man-up mentality,” Chiefs right lineman Trey Smith explained. “Nick is a consummate professional.” He’ll be prepared to depart. He has done an excellent job of preparing over the last few weeks. Our coaches will have us prepared, and Nick will perform admirably.
Thuney was chosen a First-Team All-Pro for the first time in his career this year. He previously made the Second Team twice.
He joins the Chiefs in 2021, following five seasons with the New England Patriots. Talk about good luck. Thuney is a three-time Super Bowl champion, winning one with the Chiefs and two with the Patriots.
Wide receivers Rashee Rice and Isiah Pacheco were originally listed as injured, but the Chiefs claim they are all well.
