The Iowa football team’s week leading up to their Saturday matchup against Northwestern at Chicago’s Wrigley Field has been anything but typical. Hawkeye offensive coordinator Brian Ferentz will not rejoin the coaching staff in 2024, according to a Monday announcement made by interim athletic director Beth Goetz of Iowa, who has just been in the role for three months. Including the bowl game, the coordinator will stay in this role for the remainder of the season. Son of longstanding head coach Kirk Ferentz, Ferentz is a former Iowa player who joined the staff in 2012.

The Associated Press reports that Iowa has averaged 320.2 yards and 25.3 points per game since Brian Ferentz became coordinator in 2017, placing the team 131st and 100th in the FBS accordingly. Iowa leads the Big Ten in both scoring and total yards per game this season, averaging 19.5 points and 232.4 yards per game.
