The Flyers have largely kept quiet on their trade deadline plans, maintaining that they have a specific plan in place and don’t intend to stray from the course they set out.
Names like Sean Walker, Scott Laughton, and Nick Seeler have frequently appeared as possible outgoing players, while a number of different names from a wide variety of different teams have been linked to being brought in.
The position the organization will want to reinforce as much as possible is center, where the Flyers lack quite a bit of depth. With the front office outlining that their focus is on the future and building a team that can bring “sustainable success” to the team, and that the Flyers’ young players are the core that they want to build the team around.
It would make sense to want to let go of some older players to free up space for younger guys that can play a position the Flyers are lacking in, and while the front office has played coy about what players they might be interested in before the March 8 deadline.
Among these names are Buffalo Sabres center Peyton Krebs. It’s been reported that the Flyers like Krebs a lot and have scouted him, but there haven’t been talks between the two teams just yet.
According to The Fourth Period, Krebs’ Sabres teammate and fellow center Casey Mittlestadt and the Nashville Predators’ Cody Glass are other players the Flyers have glanced at, but there is reportedly no serious interest in either player.
Then, of course, there’s the Anaheim Ducks’ Trevor Zegras, who has been linked to the Flyers much more heavily ever since close friend and former Ducks teammate Jamie Drysdale came to Philadelphia in January.
Zegras is currently out with a broken ankle, but, injury not withstanding, it looks like Zegras would be a pretty great fit for the Flyers. The issue is that the Flyers probably won’t want to give up their draft picks in exchange for Zegras, and the Ducks most likely won’t have much interest in any Flyers veterans, considering they’re in a rebuild of their own.
Danny Briere, along with other members of the front office, has been spotted intently observing the Flyers’ last two practices, but, as usual with the Flyers’ trade happenings, onlookers will only know for sure what’s going on when the organization themselves reveal any deals that have been drawn up.
