Oregon has approved a new deal for coach Dan Lanning that extends through 2028.Here’s what you should know.
The contract includes a $7 million rise this season, which will escalate to $8 million by 2028.
The buyout for Lanning leaving Oregon at any point is $20 million. If Oregon fires Lanning, it will owe him the full amount of the contract.
Lanning will receive a one-year contract extension if he wins 10 regular-season games.
In his first season as head coach, Lanning went 10-3 overall and 7-2 in the Pac-12.

- This is a significant commitment for both parties, especially given the uncertainty surrounding the Pac-12’s future and Oregon’s role in it. A $20 million buyout for Lanning to leave for another job at any moment is a huge sum that nearly guarantees Lanning will not leave Oregon for another job during this period. Miami (Fla.) paid a $9 million buyout to former head coach Mario Cristobal upon hiring him following the 2021 season. A completely guaranteed buyout from the school makes it impossible for Oregon to terminate him for several years.
