The Pittsburgh Steelers haven’t forgotten about free agency Mason Rudolph, the one-time third-stringer who energized a flagging offense and helped the team to an unexpected playoff spot the previous season, even as they attempt to bolster its quarterbacks room.

At this week’s NFL Combine in Indianapolis, general manager of the Pittsburgh Steelers Omar Kahn stated that the team had kept in touch with Rudolph and that the group wanted him back in black and gold.

“His representative has spoken with us, and he is aware that we desire his return,” Kahn stated.

Rudolph’s one-year contract with the Steelers ended at the end of the previous season, and both head coach Mike Tomlin and team president Art Rooney II expressed interest in keeping him around early in the summer.

Rudolph’s 2023 salary was only $1,080,000, but after starting three games in the regular season and throwing for 716 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions with a 75% completion percentage, he will probably make more money.

With 229 yards, a 56.4% completion percentage, two touchdowns to just one interception in his lone playoff start against the Buffalo Bills, he took a step back, but late in the second half, he still had the Steelers within a possession of the Bills.

Although they are anxious to see what Rudolph can accomplish when given a genuine chance to win the starting job on a full-time basis, the Steelers want to give Kenny Pickett an opportunity to demonstrate that he can develop into a good signal-caller.
