Rabbitohs CEO Blake Solly has disclosed that the primary reason for releasing the former premiership champion from the club’s coaching staff was a candid conversation about priorities that he had with assistant coach Sam Burgess.
In order to focus on Burgess’s role as the Warrington Wolves head coach in 2024 and the approaching birth of his kid, South Sydney revealed in a statement that they had decided to dismiss him from his assistant coaching duties, effective immediately.
Morris participated in 300 NRL games over the course of 14 seasons, spending three of those at Wests Tigers, where he never missed a match for the joint venture.
Reporters were asked questions about the roles and future priorities of all Rabbitohs coaches, including Burgess and Morris, according to Solly.
“It was a discussion with both assistant coaches as to whether they wanted to be here and try and finish the season off as well as we could,” Solly told the press on Wednesday.
