After being acquired from the Vancouver Canucks at the trade deadline, Luke Schenn rejoined the Toronto Maple Leafs in the previous campaign. Some were taken aback by Schenn’s decision to sign a new contract in the offseason and leave Toronto, but he was being drawn in another direction.
Nashville was that place. In his NHL career, Schenn has played for eight different teams; the Predators could be his final stop. The 34-year-old veteran agreed to a three-year, $2.75 million AAV contract in the offseason, and Ryan McDonagh was a major factor in the Predators’ decision to sign him rather than any other interested team.
Schenn spent two years with McDonagh in Tampa Bay, where he coincidentally played during the Lightning’s Stanley Cup victories. The squad played together for a great deal of time, spending over 130 minutes a night (both in the regular season and playoffs) as partners on the rink.
After spending 322 minutes together this season, Schenn and McDonagh appear to have made the right decision in moving in closer proximity to a close buddy and attempting to bring some of that magic to Nashville.
