With the official announcement of manager dismissal after four seasons, the Chicago Cubs have appointed former Milwaukee Brewers manager Craig Counsell to lead the team.
The Cubs acknowledged their separation from Ross in a press release later in the day, following the initial reports that surfaced on Monday afternoon.
“We had to make the tough choice to fire David Ross as our Major League manager today,” said Jed Hoyer, President of Baseball Operations for the Chicago Cubs. “We would like to thank David on behalf of the Cubs organization for his contributions to our team, both on and off the field.”
The Cubs said that Counsell will make his media debut at Wrigley Field the following week.
