So far in Spring Training, the Boston Red Sox have had a run of poor luck.
After a challenging 2023 season, Boston fans expected the team to make significant free-agent acquisitions. The Red Sox signed Lucas Giolito, but decided to reduce his contract and have made no other major additions to the rotation.
The Red Sox received some bad news: Giolito could miss the entire 2024 season due to an elbow issue. Boston has also faced with several more injuries.
Red Sox reliever Chris Martin’s bullpen session was cut short due to groyne tightness on Saturday, but the club received positive news for his Sunday performance.
.
“Just spoke with Chris Martin,” Bradford replied. “Walking great and stated that cutting the (bullpen) workout short yesterday (due to a tight groyne) was purely precautionary. We’re playing catch right now.
Martin was one of the Red Sox’s most crucial relievers last season and is projected to play a significant role for the team again in 2024. The bullpen is one of the club’s strong spots, with Martin and Kenley Jansen, but if the veteran goes down with injury, that view may alter.
