Following their elimination from the first round of the playoffs, the New York Rangers and head coach Gerard Gallant “mutually agreed to part ways,” the team said on Saturday.
Gallant, who finished his second season with the Rangers with a 99-46-19 regular season record, is leaving. Last season, he guided the Rangers to the Eastern Conference final.
However, the Rangers’ Stanley Cup playoff run in 2023 came to an abrupt end. Despite having a 2-0 series lead, New York was unable to defeat the rival New Jersey Devils.
