The Bulldogs have been handed a major setback ahead of the 2024 season, with promising star Karl Oloapu potentially out for the entire season.

According to Channel 9’s Danny Weidler, the 18-year-old faces “immediate neck surgery”.

Oloapu had been dealing with a neck issue all year and declined the opportunity to represent Samoa at the Pacific Championships in order to recover.

Following the procedure, club authorities will have to consider his long-term status, which might result in his missing the entire 2024 season.

The Bulldogs paid a $500,000 transfer fee to sign Oloapu from the Broncos in 2023, after he was regarded as one of the top up-and-coming players.

The young gun made his NRL debut in Round 12, playing first grade at the age of 18 years and 123 days.
