Klim Kostin has five points in six games since Detroit moved him to San Jose, marking a significant turnaround for a guy who struggled in a limited role for the Red Wings.

Klim Kostin’s stint with the Detroit Red Wings was meant to be different.

He was expected to be a high-potential addition to the bottom six, converting his size into points. He was supposed to be an investment, a project if you will, that turned into a vital player for a Red Wings team in playoff contention. He was not expected to be a cap dump during the trade deadline.

But maybe he was always intended to be a San Jose Shark.

Klim Kostin Injury: What happened to Detroit Red Wings winger?

Since heading out to NorCal, Kostin has found the scoring form that he lacked in a minor role with Detroit. He has five points (2G, 3A) in six games played for the Sharks, earning a bid on the top line alongside Mikael Granlund and Fabian Zetterlund at that. He was lucky to receive 11 minutes per game with the Red Wings, but he’s averaging around 13 with the Sharks.

“(He) defends the puck well. “He’s got skill,” San Jose coach David Quinn said after Kostin scored against Chicago on Sunday. “He has an edge to him. He did a good job on that line.”
