The first piece of bad news for Rutgers basketball is that Cliff Omoruyi, an All-Big Ten center, is going through the transfer portal.
The good news is that Omoruyi, who has a postgraduate season left after graduating in May, at least signaled his intentions early in the offseason, giving Scarlet Knights coach Steve Pikiell time to find a suitable replacement.
This is in contrast to the unexpected late-spring exits of starting guards Paul Mulcahy and Cam Spencer last offseason, which left Rutgers without a backcourt and eventually doomed this winter’s 15-17 record.
Saint. John’s, which is searching for an athletic rim protector, could be a potential landing point.
