The Kentucky basketball programme received bad news on Thursday when sophomore guard/forward Adou Thiero entered the transfer portal.

In 2023-24, Thiero averaged 7.2 points, five rebounds, 1.1 assists, and 1.1 blocks per game. He was Kentucky’s most physical player and top rebounder. At times this season, it appeared that Thiero was the only player ready to work hard to grab rebounds and play physical defence.

Many Kentucky supporters believe Thiero would have been a key member of the Wildcats’ 2024-25 team, helping them defend better than they did last season, put the ball on the ground, and drive.

Thiero was an outstanding driver this season, and he was also a consistent three-point shooter. If Thiero improves his shooting, he will be a legitimate first-round NBA talent wherever he ends up next season.

This means that Kentucky will need to find some physicians. Coach John Calipari stated on his radio broadcast that he intends to make next season’s team more physical, which will most likely necessitate a couple transfer portal additions, given Thiero’s departure.
