The announcement that John Calipari would be leaving his position as head coach of the Kentucky Wildcats to become the head coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks shocked the collegiate basketball world on Sunday night.

It should come as no surprise that Alabama Crimson Tide men’s basketball coach Nate Oats has emerged as a top contender to succeed the hall of fame coach in Lexington following his amazing Final Four performance.

In the coaching world, Kentucky is a blue blood program, so it would be a “step up,” but I don’t think Oats would consider leaving Tuscaloosa. Let’s examine the top five reasons why supporters of Alabama basketball shouldn’t be concerned about Coach Oats moving to Kentucky.

The Crimson Tide and Coach Oats recently signed a new contract that includes a whopping $18 million buyout. Coach Oats and Greg Byrne, the athletic director, seem to get along well because they both decided that having Oats stay on is beneficial for everyone. Kentucky can now afford it, but the big number indicates to me that Oats is not planning on leaving.
