DETROIT (AP) — Detroit Lions general manager Brad Holmes closed up his team’s season, which ended in the NFC championship game, and looked ahead to the future of the franchise, speaking for more than 11 minutes and delivering a message before taking a question.

“I don’t want anybody to think that this was a one-shot, Cinderella, magical journey that just happened,” Holmes said at his season-ending press conference on Monday. “No, that is real. This is exactly what was intended to happen.

“I realize that based on history and what has happened in the past, I understand that when you have a season like this, it’s easy to feel like this was a one-time, magical, lucky, adorable narrative, which I’m sick of hearing. There was none of that.”
