The Chicago Cubs determined they needed aid dealing with injuries in their starting rotation. Jameson Taillon is set to return this week, but with Justin Steele still out, the Cubs could use any assistance they can get.
To assist, Chicago has signed former New York Mets starting pitcher Julio Teheran, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.
Prior to the 2020 season, the Colombia native had thrown more than 174 2/3 innings in seven consecutive seasons, from 2013 to 2019.
Since then, his workload has decreased, with each season from 2020 to 2023 resulting in less than 72.0 innings pitched.
The Mets signed Teheran as a depth piece, but after just one start, the organization opted to part ways. The two-time All-Star will now have the opportunity to show Chicago that he still has something left in the tank.
