The Wildcats’ 2023-24 season was cut short by a four-point loss to 14-seed Oakland in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Pittsburgh. The unexpected result sparked concerns about Calipari’s future with the programme, following his third consecutive March Madness appearance where he failed to advance past the first weekend.
Lexington —Kentucky’s coach, John Calipari, will begin his 16th season in 2024-25. Calipari met with UK athletics director Mitch Barnhart for an end-of-season discussion on Tuesday. The outcome of that meeting: Calipari is back.
“As is customary at the end of each season, Coach Calipari and I have discussed the path of our men’s basketball programme, and I can confirm that he will return for his 16th season as head coach,” Barnhart wrote on X, the platform that replaced Twitter, on Tuesday night.
The announcement came one day after Calipari intimated that he will remain to oversee the programme next season.
“This is exactly what I desire. “This is what I wanted,” Calipari stated on his radio show Monday night. “This is why I’ve never left. And now, let’s get together and do something amazing. We can do it. We did it. “Let us do it again.”
