Mark Pope has sought out to some very talented players through the transfer window, but his most recent target may be the greatest yet.
Last season, Jonas Aidoo of Tennessee was one of the top centers in the SEC. Throughout the season, Aidoo averaged 11.4 points, 7.3 rebounds, one assist, and 1.8 blocks for the Volunteers. The 6’11, 241-pound big man is an excellent shot blocker and a force down low.
Aidoo got a double-double in Kentucky’s game against Tennessee at Rupp Arena last season, scoring 11 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Aidoo recorded 11 points, eight rebounds, and five blocks in the Wildcats’ season-ending game, despite the fact that they won.
Aidoo seemed to be on track to join Scott Drew at Baylor, but Coach Pope got his foot in the door late. It will be fascinating to see whether Coach Pope can track Jam Aidoo’s decision and speak with him before he chooses his next school.
Aidoo isn’t a shooting big man, but he’s physical, a good rebounder, and an outstanding shot blocker with SEC experience. He would.
