Arkansas has the greatest problem a sports program can have: distrust, and the most perplexing aspect is that it’s self-inflicted.

Coming into the season, Razorbacks supporters trusted no two men more than basketball coach Eric Musselman and athletics director Hunter Yurachek. However, the last month has done a lot to erode that link with the Hogs’ support base.

While there was displeasure with how the season went, most fans publicly attributed it to the players and their troubles behind the scenes rather than a Musselman problem. They were eager to get to transfer portal season so he could wipe out a lot of the drama and dissatisfaction that had occurred and start over with people he thought cared and could handle his coaching.

The following season, everything would fall into place, and Arkansas basketball would be back to normal. A year of defense, heart, and hitting culminated in March, when players reached their peak performance.

Regardless of how much Razorbacks supporters believe in and support Musselman, the message they have received, whether deliberate or not, is that they are unwanted. Musselman’s name is being linked to every position available, which at first glance appears to be a terrific strategy for an agent to get his man a raise, but it has spiraled out of control, giving him the appearance of desperation to attend any institution willing to hire him.
