After quarrelling with the head coach, The Forest Demon key player departed from the team.

Mitch Griffis, Wake Forest’s starting quarterback for most of the 2023 season, plans to use the transfer portal. The redshirt sophomore made his decision on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Tuesday morning.

“I am incredibly thankful for my four years at Wake Forest,” Griffis said in a statement. “The friendships and memories I’ve formed will last a lifetime.” A special thanks to Coach Clawson and Coach [Ruggerio] for allowing me to fulfill my dream. “I’ll always be a Demon Deacon.”

Griffis started nine games this season (and ten in total) until being replaced by redshirt junior Michael Kern in the Demon Deacons’ loss to NC State on November 11. He did not play in the last two games of the season.

Griffis was named team captain at the start of the season and finished with 1,553 passing yards, nine touchdowns, and seven interceptions, as well as 128 rushing yards and two scores. He was sacked 34 times in nine games.
