The Dallas Cowboys had a frustrating offseason because they did not make any major moves in free agency and watched numerous veteran players leave Dallas to join with other teams.
Tony Pollard, Tyler Biadasz, Dorace Armstrong, and Tyron Smith were some of the players who left Dallas. Smith was one of the most significant losses because he has been guarding Dak Prescott’s blind side for many years.
When healthy, Smith is one of the league’s top left tackles and has the potential to become a Hall of Famer. Nonetheless, the Cowboys’ decision to keep or release the veteran offensive tackle was influenced by his health.
Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones appeared on 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday and spoke extensively about Smith and Biadasz’s departure this summer.

The 33-year-old offensive lineman appeared in 13 games last season, the most he has played since 2019. Despite missing four games due to severe ailments, Smith posted an 89.1 percent pass-block victory rate and a 78.8 percent run-block win rate.
Prior to last season, Smith had only appeared in 15 games in 2022 and ’21 due to chronic ailments. Jones is correct in his assessment that the team must make difficult decisions, but replacing a future Hall of Famer on the offensive line is not easy.
