This year, the Indiana Fever selected Caitlin Clark with the first overall pick. She may be the greatest female basketball player of all time, according to many observers, but she just acknowledged that she isn’t quite ready to play in the WNBA.
The Indiana Fever, who combined for a 2022–2023 record of 18–58, were lucky to get the first overall pick in the lottery earlier this year with a 44.2% chance.
Thankfully, they were able to choose Caitlin Clark, who is thought to be the greatest college basketball player ever. Although Clark is destined for greatness, her WNBA debut hasn’t lived up to the hype thus far.
In two games with the Fever, Clark has only scored 29 points, shooting 30.5 percent from the field and committed 13 turnovers. The star analyzed her performances, admitting that she underestimated the league prior to her arrival.
“The physicality is definitely up there. … I’m easily pushed off screens,” Clark said. “The game seems a little fast for me right now. The more I play and the more comfortable I get, it’s going to slow down a little bit. It will be easier for me to make reads, see things develop.
In recent years, the Indiana Fever has not played well. Consequently, they were able to obtain the first overall pick this year, and they were lucky to choose Caitlin Clark, who is thought to be the greatest player available.
Never before in WNBA history has a college recruit been as eagerly awaited as Caitlin Clark. Although she is expected to become a major celebrity and broke multiple collegiate records, her professional debut has fallen short of expectations.
